來自西域的舞姬阿離三年前慘死客鄉(xiāng),身首異處,她的妹妹阿月來到事發(fā)的客棧,聯(lián)合戲法師李久成和縣令張承合謀演了一出大戲,將三年前涉及此事的相關(guān)人等都聚于一堂,巧設(shè)妙計讓當(dāng)年害死姐姐的兇手互相指證現(xiàn)形,最終查明了姐姐死去的真相,洗去了污名并昭雪報仇。

Following her mother’s death, manga artist Soriya travels to her ancestral home in Phnom Penh, with hopes of reconnecting with her distant family and using the visit as inspiration for her work. All goes well initially. Renting an apartment in Metta, a rundown Khmer Rouge-era housing complex, her visit to her maternal relatives finds her welcomed with open arms. But Soriya’s waking hours in the apartment and its surroundings are punctuated by terrifying, bloody visions, almost as though she were a conduit for horrors of the past wanting to seep into the present. Inrasothythep Neth and Sokyou Chea’s blood-chilling psychological horror explores a personal and political past through the present, transforming a characterful space into an insidious environment. Surrounded by modern high-rises, this decrepit structure, with its brutalist architecture and peeling surfaces, is a relic from a dark period in history whose painful memories it has absorbed. In tracing Soriya’s ominous journey back to her roots, Tenement hints at a necessary reckoning with Cambodia’s political past without overplaying its historical dimension. It’s an impressive work from a woefully underrepresented national cinema.
改編自賽珍珠的普立茲獎小說,是好萊塢在三十年代開始注意東方題材的代表性作品。影片雖是描寫中國農(nóng)村夫婦的悲劇故事,但主角均由美國人扮演,導(dǎo)演悉尼.弗蘭克林也采取西方古典電影的風(fēng)格來處理,在制作上相當(dāng)嚴(yán)謹(jǐn)認(rèn)真。劇情描寫保羅.茂尼與路易絲.萊娜本來是貧困的農(nóng)民,面對饑荒的威脅甚至以烤土充饑。后來茂尼得到了一筆財富,竟整天花天酒地迷戀情婦,萊娜只有發(fā)揮賢妻的耐性期待丈夫浪子回頭。今天看來類似故事已顯得老套,但本片的拍攝與特技表現(xiàn)杰出,路易絲.萊娜亦獲得奧斯卡最佳女主角獎。
